Episode 97 Summary
We’ve reached the point in our Native Americans Unit where we need to clarify some content vocabulary. Until now, we’ve only taught a few terms having to do with Native Americans; however the upheaval brought about by Europeans necessitates a more direct approach to words and phrases we’ll be using.
Hence, Episode 97 contains clarification of vocabulary, using a direct approach. This is a good time to look at your own ideas of what some of these words mean, and see if you need to adjust your first hypotheses about their meanings.
Episode 97 begins with a whirlwind tour through history’s Age of Discovery, featuring a video by Mr. Beat. The activities by Europeans during this time had major – and often catastrophic impacts on Native Americans. This fast-paced video takes viewers through some of the highlights of this historic period.
We follow the vocabulary instruction with a short video about today’s Taino people – mostly from a cultural perspective.
